School Of Philosophy

Derived from the Department of Political Education Henan University and formally changed to current name on September 9, 2002, the College of Philosophy & Public Administration Henan University has a long history and heaps up bit by bit on the following specialized fields of philosophy, politics, economics, law and administration. In 1927, the Department of Political Education was set up along with the foundation of Henan Zhongshan University. Later, although the Department was dismembered repeatedly, and departments of economics, law, commerce, administration came into being successively, it still kept a break-even condition. Mr. Luo Zhang-long, one of the earlier leaders of CPC, and Mr. Guan Meng-jue, a notable Marxist economist once conducted teaching and research work on political theories here in 1920-30’s. Historically, many nation-famous and influential scholars once worked in this Department such as Zhou Shou-zheng, Ma Pei, Wu Zu-mou, Hou Heng, Mo Qi, Huang Kui-wu, Zhang Hao, etc.
       
The College of Philosophy & Public Administration has now a teaching and administrative staff of 90, among whom there are thirty-five professors and associate professors, one school specially appointed professor, one provincially academic and technical leader, forty-four teachers with doctor’s degree. The administration academic group is named school-level excellent one. The fundamental tenets of Marxism has authorization to confer doctor’s degree, MPA, the ideological and political education bear an authorization to confer specialized degree, and the four first-class subjects (containing twenty-five majors ) of philosophy, politics, Marxist theory and public administration have authorization to confer master’s degree. In regular undergraduate education, we have such following majors as ideological and political education, administration, labor and social security including specialty of labor relations, public institution administration including specialties of social work and urban administration, philosophy.
 
The academic traditions coming down from 1927, the lingering customs and life style of the past generations of the Department of Political Education will surely influence the College of Philosophy & Public Administration profoundly. The college will undertake the role that the former Department played, and dance more gracefully on the stage of Henan higher learning and institutions.

Prof. Lu Shi-rong, female, member of CPC, born in 1954, Ph. D. of Marxist philosophy, mentor of Ph. D. candidates, and now she is executive council member of National Academy of History of Marxist Philosophy, executive council member of National Academy of Historical Materialism, council member of National Academy of Dialectical Materialism, council member of National Academy of Anthropology, council member of National Academy of Marx and Engels, expert of philosophy review group of National Philosophical Social Science Fund.
 
Prof. Zhang Xing-mao, male, member of CPC, born in Gongyi Henan in 1963, now dean of the College of Philosophy & Public Administration, vice-dean of Academy of Marxism, mentor of Ph. D. candidates, council member of National Academy of Marx and Engels, council member of National Academy of On Capitalism, vice-chairman of Henan Provincial Academy of On Capitalism, having hosted and finished several key research projects of national, provincial or ministry-level social science fund, published over fifty articles on national authoritative periodicals, four monographs, got eight provincial or ministry-level rewards, and attained important academic achievements in the fields of Political Economy and the Sinicization of Marxism.
